Why DGF is aggressive to train gynaecologists in colposcopy?
What Women Need to Know about Cervical Cancer
- Cervical cancer is one of the most common cancer that affects woman’s reproductive organs
- Cancer of cervix (lower part of womb or uterus) may take many years to develop. Before it does so, the cells in cervix may show changes, which doctor call as CIN.
- These cells changes or CIN are not cancer but act as a early warning signal that cervical cancer may develop in future, if the cells are left untreated.
- Cause for these cell changes is infection by some Human papilloma virus HPV. HPV IS DIFFERENT FROM HIV.
- Millions of women already have it. You could have HPV and not even know it because there are no symptoms.
- For most women HPV clears on its own. But for some cervical cancer can develop.
- The reality is that this cancer is 100% preventable and detectable at very early stage through regular screening.
- Unfortunately over 1,00,000 women die every year in India needlessly.
- With regular screening every 3 to 5 years and appropriate treatment of these early cell changes developing into cancer could be reduced upto 95%.
Video Colposcopy is quick and accurate test for women to detect abnormal cell changes in cervix and treated immediately.
EVERY WOMEN AGED 35 OR OLDER MUST GET COLPOSCOPY SCREENING AT LEAST ONCE IN THEIR LIFE TIME.
IT IS OUR DESIRE THAT EVERY GYNAECOLOGIST SHOULD HAVE COLPOSOPE IN HER OFFICE. DGF IS HOLDING REGULAR COLPOSCOPY WORKSHOPS SINCE 2003
(2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008) following Annual Cancer Detection Camps. Live demonstration of cases had been our main focus. As many as forty cases were shown live in 2003 workshop, twenty six cases in 2005, 18 case in 2006, and 48 cases in 2008.
In 2009, Workshop on Colposcopy is totally changed as to outreach more and more gynaecologists. This workshop takes 2 hours time only, very convenient to doctors to attend.
Its Focus is on –
(a). Video of Colposcopy technique
(b). Normal Colposcopy findings (almost 100 pictures are shown)
(c). Abnormal Colposcopy findings (almost 100 pictures are shown)
Master trainers are Dr. Sharda Jain and Dr. Veena Singh (ICMR)
The workshop is on the guidelines of American society of Colposcopy and Cervical pathology (ASCCP)
The feed back by gynaecologists has been fantastic in East, South, West, North Delhi. Quiz shown in workshop shows that they can make visual diagnosis accurately. Every gynaecologist felt confident in doing colposcopy, making the correct diagnosis and reporting in proper format.
There workshops are already done in East, North, South and West Delhi. More workshops are planned for ESI, MCD, Doctors and in Ghaziabad, Gurgaon and Faridabad. These workshops are totally free as our mission to upgrade ordinary gynaecologists skill.
Delhi Gyhnaecologist Forum with Pushpanjali Crosslay Hospital are jointly organizing National training programme for doctors. It will be one day structured programme done every 3 month dates for 2010 will be shortly announced.
It is hoped by 2020 every postgraduate gynaecologist in Delhi is skilled enough to do satisfactory colposcopy and uses this cutting edge technology in their office practice.
